Founders

Paul (April 8, 1916 - December 17, 1984) and Helen (May 1, 1917 – May 14, 2016) Ellis lived in the Black Rock Riverside neighborhood in north Buffalo for most of their adult lives. Paul worked as a Certified Public Accountant and Helen was a homemaker with interests in cooking, gardening and baking. The Ellis’ lived a quiet, modest life while supporting their community.

Helen created the Trust after Paul's death to provide funding for the causes important to them. They identified three organizations in particular for on-going support: Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center; Kenmore Mercy Hospital; and Hospice Buffalo. These entities are considered Legacy Organizations.

Today, the Trust has assets of $6 million. Approximately $280,000 is distributed annually to eligible organizations in Erie County in New York State.
